School Calendar Adjustment - Addition of Instructional Time

This year's weather has brought some unusual challenges to our second trimester instructional time at the high school.  Students have missed more school than we would like and we are looking at sensible ways to recover as much instructional time as possible.  At the school board meeting on January 19th, changes were made to the school calendar to initially address the instructional time issue.

The following adjustments were made to the calendar:
First, the high school will be adding January 27 as an instructional day.  Currently the school calendar calls for parent/teacher conferences the evening of Thursday, January 26th and morning of Friday, January 27th, with the 27th showing as a non-school day.  As much as we value this time with parents, we believe it would be wise to recover this day for student instruction.  In addition, discussion points on your child’s progress would be minimal due to the lack of time in their classes.  Second, the second trimester end date has been adjusted.   Essentially we moved the end of the trimester back up against Spring Break. Students will have school on March 15, 16, and 17 and will now be taking their finals on March 22nd and March 23rd (both days are half days). March 24th will be a grading day (no school for students). April 3, the Monday after Spring Break will be a teacher work day (no school for students).  The third trimester will begin on Tuesday, April 4th.  The school board will be asked to review and take action on additional K-12 calendar changes in February or March, depending on the nature of further weather incidents.  I will keep you updated of any additional changes to the school calendar.
In summary, Molalla High School will NOT be having conferences the evening of January 26th and will be following the rest of the district's schedule with a late start school day on Friday, January 27th.  The end of the second trimester has been pushed back to March 23 with half day finals on the 22nd and 23rd. Students will not have school on Friday, March 24 (grade day) and April 3 (teacher work day).  April 4th is the start date of the third trimester.  To compensate for the loss of the conference times, parents are encouraged to connect with their child's teacher via email or phone to discuss any concerns.  Parents can also view their child's progress on Parentvue at any time.  Parents needing access to Parentvue are encouraged to contact our registrar, Gina Bilyeu by phone at 503-759-7315 or e-mail at
